U.S. Senate Bill Introduced to Grant Federal Government Exclusive Regulatory Authority Over VoIP

The U.S. Senate has introduced the VoIP Regulatory Freedom Act, thereby granting the U.S. federal government exclusive jurisdiction to regulate VoIPs. The bill proposes to limit the application of the traditional regulatory regime to VoIP phone service providers including a ban on the imposition of certain "access charge" taxes by the FCC. The bill's chief sponsor, senator John Sununu, has reasoned that the bill intended to facilitate the continued unhindered growth of the VoIP technology.
