U.S. Court Upholds Prison Term in Online Pharmacy Case

In a recent decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals (4th Circuit) upheld a 77-month prison sentence imposed on the defendant who had been convicted for running an illegal Internet pharmacy. The defendant, along with a co-conspirator, dispensed various prescription drugs over the Internet, although he had no medical training.

In another report concerning online pharmacies, a State Senator has introduced legislation that would permit the importation of drugs via online pharmacies located in Canada and other jurisdictions. The proposed legislation would also impose penalties on U.S. companies that limit the supply of drugs to Canada.
