UPS and Other Couriers File Suit against Maines Tobacco Sales Law
UPS is leading a court battle against Maine's year-old tobacco sales law designed to prevent online tobacco sales to minors. The law acts as a burden on courier companies by requiring them to ensure that the named buyer sign for each tobacco delivery and that he or she is at least 18 years of age. Maine's law restricts the home delivery of tobacco, thereby acting as a deterrent to children attempting to purchase cigarettes online.
