UN Maps Movement of Refugees Using Google Earth

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced a program to create online maps of the movement of refugees using Google Earth. The program will enable humanitarian agencies to build a visual, geographic record of their work, which will serve both as a means to educate the public on the plight of refugees as well as a tool to assist humanitarian agencies and aid workers with logistical planning and repatriation operations. Viewers can zoom in on satellite images of crisis areas, view photographs and videos, and learn about where refugees have come from and the problems they face. The program is facilitated by Google Earth Outreach, which provides software and training to public benefit organizations seeking to raise awareness of their work.
