Three Privacy Studies Recently Released

Three recent studies have been released on the issue of privacy. They are as follows:

EPIC - 2003 Privacy and Human Rights Report - On September 5, 2003, the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) in Washington, DC, released its annual survey on privacy and data protection. The report reviews the state of privacy in over fifty countries around the globe. This study reveals that governments have enhanced their surveillance powers at the cost of intruding into fundamental human rights including privacy.

European Union - New Technology and Respect for Privacy in the Workplace - This comparative study focuses on the relationship between Internet and email use at work and privacy. The study is based on reports of individual nations submitted by the European Industrial Relations Observatory On-line's (EIRO) national centers.

Ontario - The Security-Privacy Paradox: Issues, Misconceptions and Strategies - The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario and Deloitte & Touche, released a report on August 2003, dealing with security and privacy issues in organizations that use personal information of individuals. The paper seeks to clarify the "security-privacy paradox for senior executives and other professionals", and puts great emphasis on the issue of privacy.
