Suspect Charged for Obtaining Confidential Information on Sony Pictures

Cody Kretsinger, a suspected member of a hacking group, LulzSec, also known as Lulz Security, was arrested on charges of taking part in obtaining confidential information from Sony Pictures’ computer system. Mr. Kretsinger, along with co-conspirators, posted the stolen information on LulzSec’s website and announced it on the group’s Twitter account. Sony has stated that about 37,500 users had personally identifiable information stolen, including names, birth dates, addresses, e-mails, phone numbers and passwords of people who entered into contests promoted by Sony.

Although Mr. Kretsinger was released on his own recognizance, he is barred from using a computer to access the Internet except at his place of employment and faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison if convicted.
