The Royal Canadian Mounted Police has charged a 16-year old Mississauga teenager with mischief against data and fraudulent use of a computer in connection with the distribution of the Randex worm. The Randex worm is able to hack into Microsoft Windows-based systems using a variety of commonly used passwords. Spammers can then control a Randex-infected system through an IRC client in order to obtain confidential information, steal data, or pursue other purposes. The virus in this instance infected about 9,000 computers.
