Privacy Commissioner of Canada releases Annual Report

The Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Jennifer Stoddart, has released her Annual Report to Parliament for 2003-2004. The 99-page Report reviews investigations and audits undertaken by the federal Office of the Privacy Commissioner (OPC) in 2003 and 2004 under both the Privacy Act and PIPEDA. Furthermore, the Report identifies OPC achievements over the past year (including efforts to regain the confidence of Canadians after the George Radwanski scandal), outlines the OPC's position on controversial privacy issues such as surveillance technologies and national security, and suggests future measures such as legislative reform of the Privacy Act, a review of the Anti-Terrorism Act, and an audit of the cross-border flow of Canadians' personal information.
