The U.S. Senate has introduced a bill that targets movie piracy by imposing a prison sentence of up to three years for people who secretly videotape movies in theatres and illegally distribute them. Industry insiders and hackers who distribute movies before their release date are also subject to stiffer penalties. According to the U.S. Customs Department, secret camcorder recordings and industry leaks are responsible for 95% of online pirated material.
