Regina city council has passed the Anti-Bullying and Public Fighting Bylaw. The Bylaw makes it illegal to bully another person through written or electronic communications. It is also an offence under the bylaw to take pictures or video of a fight and post it online. Fines range from $100 to $2,000. The Bylaw is designed to fill a gap in the laws against bullying, including bullying online. There is increasing evidence of young people being bullied through Internet postings and school yard fights being videotaped and displayed online. Police will have the ability to hand out tickets to people involved. A similar law is already in place in Edmonton.
