Ontario Court Orders Removal of Clients Negative Comments Against his Former Law Firm on YouTube

An Ontario Superior Court has ruled in favour of a motion brought by lawyer, Paul Ledroit, regarding his client’s negative comments on Youtube.

Ledroit’s client, Stan Hall, unhappy with Ledroit’s legal representation in an insurance claim, chose to post a video on Youtube to express his dissatisfaction. In the video, Hall accuses Ledroit and his law firm, Ledroit Beckett, of being “incompetent and dishonest”.

In granting Ledroit’s motion to remove the video, Superior Court Justice William Jenkins ruled that the allegations against Ledroit were unproven and would cause Ledroit and his firm “significant and irreparable damage” if the video continued to be viewed by the public. The Judge also ordered that Hall refrain from posting anything else until the court permits him.

Hall has expressed uncertainty on whether he will observe the court’s ruling: “If I choose to obey it, they’ve won,” he stated.
