Online Drugstore Shuts Down Over Potential Conflict of Interest
PharmaDirect.ca, an online drugstore indirectly owned by New Jersey based Johnson & Johnson and managed by a prominent Waterloo pharmacist, is suddenly shutting down after being asked questions about the unusual business arrangement between the drug manufacturer and the pharmacist. In particular, this arrangement raised concerns about whether the independence of pharmacists is being undermined by corporate interests. Unlike typical pharmacies that sell drugs made by numerous manufacturers, PharmaDirect.ca only sells over-the-counter drugs made by Johnson & Johnson to Canadian customers.
