Nova Scotia has implemented new regulations, made under the Consumer Protection Act, to govern the sales of goods and services on the Internet. The Internet Sales Contract Regulations outline the information that businesses in Nova Scotia must disclose to online buyers before entering into an Internet sales contract. In particular, online businesses must provide complete contact information, a fair and accurate description of the goods or services being sold, and details of the costs and the return policies associated with the sale.
The regulations also require that online sellers provide an Internet sales contract that contains the prescribed information that must be disclosed. There are cancellation rights available to the seller if the Internet sales contract does not conform to the regulations, for example, if the contract does not disclose the proper information or if the seller does not receive the contract before receiving the goods or services.
