Movie Industry Set to Sue Individual File Sharers in War Against Piracy

Spurred on by the top brass of the major Hollywood studios, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) is preparing to launch lawsuits against individual file sharers of movies and television programs.

Determined not to repeat the mistakes of the recording industry which, by its own admission, was slow off the mark in responding to the fast pace of technological change and the arrival of allegedly illegal downloading services like Napster, the movie industry has been organizing educational campaigns and actively lobbying governments for more aggressive legislative protection as part of a multi-pronged anti-piracy strategy. It now appears that the next battle in the war against online piracy of movies will be waged in the Courts.
