On October 26, 2007, Montreal police arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of using a handheld camcorder to tape Disney’s “Dan in Real Life.” It is the first time since legislation to criminalize unauthorized camcording became law last June, that the police have enforced section 432 of the Criminal Code which states:
“A person who, without the consent of the Theatre Manager, records in a movie theatre a performance of cinematographic work within the meaning of Section 2 of the Copyright Act or its soundtrack:
Montreal police have not yet decided if they will bring formal charges.
