Microsoft has filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) against the makers of TiVo, seeking to bar the set-top DVR boxes from being imported into and sold in the U.S.
Microsoft is already engaged in a year-old patent suit against TiVo. In the suit, Microsoft alleged that TiVo was illegally using video purchasing and delivery technology in its digital video recorders - two features Microsoft claims are covered within patents it owns.
While a complaint has been filed, Microsoft has nevertheless stated that it was “open to resolving this situation through an intellectual property license agreement” and that it had initiated discussions with TiVo to negotiate the licenses.
