In an action brought by the New York State Bar Association, a U.S. federal judge has ruled that the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act does not apply to the legal profession. As a result, U.S. lawyers will not be required to notify their clients concerning their privacy policies and information sharing practices, as otherwise required of financial institutions under the Act.
