Eastman Kodak Co. has lost a preliminary U.S. International Trade Commission ruling in which it asserted patent infringement by Apple’s iPhones and RIM’s camera-enabled BlackBerries. The patented technology relates to a method for previewing images. The ruling appears to undermine Kodak's chances of negotiating royalty deals with the two smart-phone makers.
The Commission’s preliminary ruling can be altered by a majority vote of the agency’s commissioners until May 23, 2011.
