Italian government agency, AAMS, has asserted that commencing February 24, 2006, approximately 517 illegal or unauthorized gambling websites will be obscured by an ISP filter so that Italian Internet users will no longer be able to connect to them.
AAMS’ mandate includes “safeguarding consumers, public order and the competitive system.”
Those who fail to comply with the new law will face a hefty fine of 30,000 to 180,000 euros, which is equivalent to $35,000 to $210,000 (USD).
