Click Defense Inc., a firm that advertises its click-fraud detection software through the Google website, filed a class action lawsuit against Google Inc. alleging breach of contract, negligence, unjust enrichment and unfair business practices for failure to protect users of Google's advertising program from "click fraud". Click fraud is an industry term that refers to the practice of clicking on per-click advertisements for the purpose of causing the advertiser to incur undue and potentially detrimental levels of advertising expense, given that the advertiser pays fees on a per-click basis. The practice is often employed by the advertiser's rivals. Click Defense alleges that click fraud has cost them and other potential plaintiffs at least $5,000,000.
