Google Street View Sued for Privacy Violation

A couple in Pennsylvania, Mr. and Mrs. Boring, have sued Internet behemoth Google because images of their home placed on Google’s “Street View” service allegedly violate their privacy, have devalued their house and have caused them mental suffering. Street View is a feature of Google’s mapping tool that allows users to view a given area from an “on the ground” perspective. Images are gathered for this by vehicles driven on public roads and which take digital images of their surroundings.

The couple says that they bought their home for its privacy and that Google must have entered onto their property in order to have obtained the images that it did. Google has expressed a willingness to remove any image subject to a verified request from the property owner. Google has called the lawsuit frivolous in light of the ease by which these images can be removed. The couple seeks $25,000 in damages.
