Four current and former Google officials have been ordered to face charges laid by the Italian prosecutor in connection with a video posted on Google’s Italian website showing a boy with Down syndrome being taunted by a number of high school kids. The charges, for defamation and breach of privacy, are based on the failure of Google to take steps to prevent the video from being posted. The charges followed a complaint filed by the boy’s father and an Italian advocacy group for people with Down syndrome. Google has expressed concern over the case potentially setting a worrisome precedent.
