France Fines Google over Street View Privacy Breaches

Google received its first ever fine for improperly gathering and storing data for its Street View application when France’s privacy watchdog penalized Google on March 14, 2011.

The USD$141,300 penalty sanctions Google for collecting personal data from Wi-Fi networks from 2007 to 2010 through its roaming camera-mounted cars and bicycles.

Google has apologized and has promised to delete the data.

Several other countries have complained about Google’s Street View and two other European countries are considering fines.
