First Case Under Amber Alert Legislation

U.S. Attorney James B. Comey recently announced the first prosecution under the new Truth in Domain Names legislation (enacted by the PROTECT Act) designed to prevent the use of misleading domain names to land children on obscene websites. John Zuccarini was charged under subsection (b) of 18 U.S.C. § 2252B, which makes it illegal to knowingly use a misleading domain name with the intent to deceive a minor into viewing material that is harmful to minors. Mr. Zuccarini would allegedly attract minors to pornographic sites through websites he set up using misspelled names of popular teen and children's sites.
