Coca-Cola Ltd. Wins Right to "cocacola.ca" Via CIRA Domain Name Dispute Process

Coca-Cola Ltd., owner of a number of trade-mark registrations in Canada, had filed a complaint with the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) over the "cocacola.ca" domain name, which was registered in November 2000 by an individual residing in British Columbia. Finding in favour of Coca-Cola Ltd., a CIRA panel held that the cocacola.ca domain name was confusingly similar to the company's trade-marks, the owner of the domain name registration had no legitimate interest in the domain name, and the owner had registered the domain name in bad faith. The panel directed that the registration of the cocacola.ca domain name be transferred to Coca-Cola Ltd.
