Canadian Privacy Regulator Still Sees Facebook as a Challenge

Canada's Privacy Commissioner announced an end to one probe and the beginning of another in relation to Facebook.  Jennifer Stoddart revealed that the Commission is reviewing Facebook's "Like" button feature, which was made available by Facebook to third party websites.  The feature is one of a "handful of issues" the Commission has with the popular social network.  The "Like" feature enables users to recommend pages from particular sites.  Critics wonder what is happening to such data.

Canada has concluded an investigation, begun in 2008, related to the public availability of personal data and photos posted by users.  Earlier in the year, Facebook made changes to the service in response to users, privacy advocates and regulators, to allow users to better shield private information from being scraped by software developers in particular.  However, Ms. Stoddart cautioned that the decision was not to be seen as an endorsement of Facebook.
