The British Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCCPS) has suspended a Canadian doctor for two years for signing thousands of prescriptions for U.S. patients, the harshest penalty yet handed out by the BCCPS for such activity. The doctor signed the prescriptions without seeing the patients face-to-face, which, although not illegal, is discouraged by most Canadian regulatory boards. The Canadian Health Minister is urging Parliament to pass legislation to restrict such activities and to otherwise regulate cross-border prescription-drug traffic through Canadian pharmacies on the Internet.
