CIRA s New Policies and Amendments Effective as of September 25 2003

The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) has introduced two new policies and has amended two of its old policies, all of which will be effective as of September 25, 2003.

The amendments are:

1. amending Article 6.3 of the Registrant Agreement to clarify that CIRA has, in its sole discretion, the power to cancel registrations within 30 days of activation, upon providing notice to the Registrant and the Registrant's Registrar;

2. amending Article 2.4 of the Registrant Agreement to clarify the powers of CIRA in the process of verifying the accuracy of information and/or compliance with CIRA's policies;

3. amending Sections 2.15(c) (v) and Section 8.11 of the General Registration Rules to clarify the language and intent of those sections; and

4. amending the Fees Policy and Rules to include two new fees: (i) Non-emergency Call Fee ($50.00), and (ii) Manual Change of Administrative Contact Expedited Process Fee ($12.50).

As a result of the changes:

1. Effective September 25, 2003, Registrars will have to make individual requests for registrar reports, as CIRA will no longer send automated nightly reports to Registrars;

2. CIRA shall provide emergency technical support to Registrars outside of normal CIRA business hours;

3. As of September 25, 2003, CIRA is implementing a system which collects Registrant Contact Information from the Registrant and allows a Registrar of Record to request manual changes to administrative contact details on behalf of a Registrant.

4. Certain domain names that were previously reserved by CIRA for government agencies will now be released and other names shall be reserved for use by municipalities.
