Twitter banned UberMedia’s Twitter Applications (“Apps”), UberTwitter and Twidroyd, over the weekend of February 18 – 20th, 2011, as a result of alleged trade-mark infringement and privacy violations, among other allegations, by UberMedia. The ban prevented users of Twitter from downloading or using the Apps. The ban affected Android, iPhone and Blackberry users.
In response, UberMedia was forced to make changes to its Apps, including renaming UberTwitter to UberSocial, in order to address the issue of trademark infringement alleged by Twitter. Such changes were made to the satisfaction of Twitter, which in turn lifted the ban.
UberMedia is an independent developer of apps and web-based services, which makes it easier for users to find, follow and communicate with others on Twitter and other social media networks. UberMedia was founded in 2010 by Internet entrepreneur, Bill Gross.
