Author Claims Online Essays Breach Copyright
A recent lawsuit commenced in the U.S. highlights the issue of university students downloading essays from the Internet and passing off the work as their own. Blue Macellari wrote a term paper in 1999 which she subsequently posted to a website that described her own accomplishments. She then found that students had obtained it from another website that makes essays available for a fee over the Internet. A number of sites are named in the suit, including www.doingmyhomework.com. The site claims that it provides the public with examples of papers to help people find ideas. The legal issues raised in the suit include copyright infringement, invasion of privacy and damage to reputation.
