Amazon.com recently filed eleven lawsuits in the U.S. and Canada against marketers who are allegedly using e-mail forgeries of its name, in a practice known as "spoofing". Spoofing replaces the real identify of the e-mail sender with that of a third party such as Amazon.com. This makes it more likely that the recipient will open the e-mail and harder for the recipient to trace the sender of the e-mail. Amazon's general counsel referred to such practice as "consumer fraud". One of the companies being sued is an Ontario Company (1505820 Ontario Inc.).
