Amazon Wins Dispute over its 1 Click Patent

The U.S. Court of Appeal for the Federal Circuit upheld the lower District Court’s finding that Amazon.com is not liable for patent infringement for its 1-Click check-out system. IPXL Holding L.L.C. (“IPXL”) alleged that Amazon.com infringed IPXL’s U.S. Patent No. 6,149,055, for an electronic fund transfer or transaction system.

However, due to Amazon’s failure to timely file its original request for the exceptional award, or explain the delay, the Court of Appeal reversed Amazon’s award by the lower court of $1,674,645.82 plus interest, for attorney fees and costs, against the one person holding company.
