Jury Sentences North Carolina Spammer to Nine Year Prison Term

A spammer was convicted in the United States' first felony prosecution for spamming and sentenced to nine years in prison. A jury recommended a prison term for Jeremy Jaynes of North Carolina who had sent at least 10 million e-mails a day with the help of 16 high-speed lines. However, the sentence was postponed while the case is being appealed. In postponing the prison term, the judge acknowledged that the law targeting bulk e-mail distribution is new and could raise constitutional objections.
