HP Sues Over Ink Cartridges

Hewlett-Packard has filed suit against four corporations in Hong Kong and Taiwan in a federal court in San Francisco for alleged misconduct relating to the manufacture and sales of printer ink cartridges. HP alleges patent infringement against all the defendants, and conversion of genuine HP parts (namely 300,000 printheads) by one of the defendants. It has also alleged that one defendant infringed six of its patents in ink cartridges by manufacturing and selling these under its own name or as part of generic or custom-ordered cartridges that were subsequently sold to other defendants. Some of the products were sold through the Internet.
