Court Upholds Contempt Finding Against EchoStar in TiVo Patent Dispute

TiVo has won a favourable court ruling in its long-standing patent dispute with EchoStar. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has upheld a contempt ruling against EchoStar after EchoStar failed to disable the DVR feature in its device to comply with an earlier injunction. EchoStar was found in contempt of a 2008 ruling by the United States District Court, Eastern District of Texas, which ordered EchoStar to pay TiVo $104.6 million in damages and interest, and imposed a permanent injunction against the company, barring it from infringing on TiVo's patents. After losing its appeal, EchoStar is now liable for damages and contempt sanctions. EchoStar has stated that it will seek a review of the ruling by the full appellate court.
