Class Action Filed Against Yelp for Business Reviews Site

A class action lawsuit has recently been filed in a Los Angeles court against Yelp, provider of the popular website providing business reviews. The filing claims that a veterinary hospital experienced extortion at the hands of Yelp when Yelp effectively asked for payment in exchange for the removal of Yelp’s negative reviews, which the hospital says are false and defamatory. Yelp has previously received press coverage concerning its alleged removal of negative reviews on behalf of paid advertisers. Yelp claims that it provides a valuable service based on its trusted content, and intends to dispute the lawsuit aggressively.
